Titanium has a high affinity
towards oxygen but lower when compared to aluminum and zirconium. When
de-oxidized, titanium has shown an affinity towards the dissolved nitrogen gas
in the molten steel and produces a compound like titanium nitride which floats
up to the surface of the bath liquid. This dissolved material is then removed
by the use of titanium as ferro titanium.
